Southern Oregon Wildfires Update for August 5th

Crews in southwest Oregon are contending with hotter, drier weather Monday as they try to contain clusters of forest fires ignited by lightning in late July. Among them are the Big Windy fires in the Rogue River Canyon, 25 miles northwest of Grants Pass which grew steadily over the weekend to an acreage of 9,192 acres. Rural/Metro firefighters have been busy today in Josephine County. There are approximately 20 lightning-caused fires since last night; sizes range from one-tenth of an acre to ten acres. As of this morning, no structures were threatened. The Oregon Department of Forestry has committed multiple resources with air tankers and helicopters assisting.
