Thursday Sports Minute: British Open (golf), LPGA, Hockey Signing

Rory McIlroy has the clubhouse lead late in the first round of the British Open. The two-time major winner opened with a 6-under 66 with a round that featured six birdies. Italian Matteo Manassero stands alone in second place at 5-under while several players, including World No. 1 Adam Scott, are tied at 4-under. Tiger Woods had a good finish to his round of 3-under 69. He began the day with back-to-back bogeys. SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) - The opening round of the LPGA's Marathon Classic is underway in Sylvania, Ohio. Laura Diaz of the U.S. opened play with a 9-under 62 for the early clubhouse lead. Her round featured nine birdies. UNDATED (AP) - If you are longing for some Major League Baseball this evening, forget it. The extended All-Star break continues with no games this evening. The second half of the season will start tomorrow night with a full slate of games. BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres have formally announced the signing of center Tyler Ennis. A person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press that the contract is worth about $23 million over five years. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Sabres have not revealed the terms of the contract.
