By Jim McCoy Fri 2nd May SportsHouston RocketsNBAPortland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers can advance past the first round of the NBA playoffs for the first time in several years if they can defeat the Houston Rockets tonight at the Moda Center. The Blazers currently hold a 3-2 series edge. The Rockets come in with a victory Wednesday in which Dwight Howard, Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons led the way for Houston. Early foul trouble led to a relatively quiet night for Blazer forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Blazers guard Wesley Matthews led Portland's Game 5 efforts. The winner of the Portland- Houston series will take on the winner in the Western Conference series between the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio, the 2012-13 Western Conference champions hold a 3-2 edge over the Mavs. Their Game 6 is tonight as well, along with Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Series between the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets. The Raptors hold a 3-2 series edge.
