Man Retrieving Softball Saves Drowning Man

By Jim McCoy Mon 9th September SportsLoganrescuesoftballUtah
A man who went to fetch a softball that was hit over the fence during a recreational league game in northern Utah ended up saving a man's life. Bart Griffiths tells The Herald Journal (http://bit.ly/18MLXzd ) he was retrieving a ball Wednesday for players at Willow Park Sports Complex in Logan when he saw something out of the corner of his eye. Griffiths says he went to check on a gray object in an irrigation canal and realized it was a wheelchair tire, with a 62-year-old man face-down in the shallow water nearby. The victim told Griffiths he was dying, and Griffiths called for help. Griffiths says it appears the man hit the steep bank of the canal with his motorized wheelchair and then flew off the chair. The man was treated at the hospital and cited for intoxication.
