Absence of Big Names at Wimbledon Paves Way For Lesser Knowns

By Jim McCoy Thu 27th June SportsTennisWimbledon
Looking for Rafa, Roger or Maria? Don't look at Wimbledon. It's less than a week into play and so many of its biggest stars have lost and left. That's made for some getting-to-know-you moments between Thursday and when the tournament concludes, next weekend. Among the long list of oft-overlooked players sharing the grass courts with Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Serena Williams include Kimiko Date-Krumm, a 42-year-old who retired for 12 years but is now back in the top 100. Also, Eugenie Bouchard, the 19-year-old Canadian who won the junior championship last year. On the men's side, eighth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro has the distinction as the only man left in the draw with a Grand Slam title to his credit not named Djokovic or Murray.
