Unlikely Stars Shine In Baseball Postseason

Quintin Berry lifted the Detroit Tigers with his speed. Miguel Gonzalez pitched a gem for the Baltimore Orioles. The Oakland Athletics used a reliever who was once a first baseman. The St. Louis Cardinals got a boost from a couple unheralded middle infielders. Throughout the first week of the postseason, unknowns and journeymen have enjoyed moments in the spotlight. It's all part of the game's October Surprise. And at this time of year seemingly anybody can take a star turn. In a compressed postseason, a player need only play well for a week or so to become an overnight sensation - and leave the opposing manager scratching his head.
