SOU Lays Out Budget-Saving Cuts

25 faculty positions will be cut at Southern Oregon University as part of the school’s retrenchment. The physics program will be cut. So will majors in art history and French and minors in geology, geography and photography. International studies and fine arts will be spared cuts. SOU Retrenchment Plan Calls For Cutting Professors, 10 Majors

A proposal has been announced by Southern Oregon University that if enacted as proposed will cut five full-time professors, 10 majors and 12 minors. SOU President Mary Cullinan says "It's very sad." Oregon University Enrollment Increases Slightly, But Shrinks At SOU

Enrollment at Oregon's seven public universities has leveled off after years of sharp increases during and after the Great Recession. The Oregon University System announced Thursday that more than 103,000 students enrolled for the fall term. That's a record, but it represents an increase of less than 2 percent from last fall.Read More »

Peace Accord In JPR Struggle With SOU

A peace accord has been reached in the battle for control of Jefferson Public Radio, which broadcasts in Southern Oregon and Northern California. The Mail Tribune reports the parties announced Monday in Medford that Southern Oregon University will take control of all 22 radio stations and create a separate fundraising arm for other projects.

SOU President Gets Raise, Contract Extension

Southern Oregon University President Mary Cullinan's contract has been renewed for another two years and she got a raise that will boost her annual pay to $205,000. The Ashland Daily Tidings reports that the State Board of Higher Education approved the increase earlier this month.
