Rules banning dogs from most of Ashland’s developed parks are set to be relaxed soon. Steve Best has more.

The Ashland Parks Commission, which governs park operations, voted recently to allow dogs in nine neighborhood parks on a one-year trial basis.

Dogs will be required to remain on leashes and stay within 6 feet of sidewalks and paved paths. Owners will have to carry bags to clean up waste, and must clean up any waste immediately, or face fines.

Dogs will still not be allowed in Lithia Park or North Mountain Park, which has a natural area frequented by birds, beavers, and other wildlife.

The trial period will begin once signs and waste bag stations have been installed at parks.
