Medford Police, Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department have announced they are stepping up drunk driving patrols into the new year. Steve Best has more…

The increased patrols, which started over the weekend, will be all over Jackson County through January 2nd.
Sheriff’s deputies saw a spike in total DUIIs in 2008 with 332 arrests, that number dropped in both 2009 and 2010.

So far it looks as if 2011 will see a continued drop with 222 arrests to date.

Police are reminding drivers to be responsible this holiday season, either by having a designated driver or by taking a cab if they plan on drinking alcohol.
