One of the movers and shakers in building a Medford casino has died. After a long term illness, Coquille Tribal Chief Kenneth Tanner died Saturday morning according to a tribal spokesman. Tribal Chairperson Brenda Meade says Tanner gave 'calm and assured guidance' in the most difficult times and his absence is already being felt by tribal members. Tanner was a moving force behind an extended effort to build a casino at the Medford Roxy Lanes bowling site. He was head of the 1,000 member tribe for over 20 years. Funeral arrangements are pending.
