The driver who was driving the car hit by another motorist on North River Road Wednesday has died from his injuries. 80-year old Jerry Barrett of Gold Hill has died in the same accident that claimed the life of Joe David Campos of Grants Pass. At 1:15 p.m.yesterday, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a crash in the 3600 block of North River Road near Gold Hill. Lynda Mae Taylor, 32, of Grants Pass lost control of her Kia Spectra while entering a corner. She slid sideways and into the path of a Buick Park Avenue driven by Barrett. The vehicles collided, and Campos- who was riding with Taylor- was killed at the scene. Sheriff's spokesperson Andrea Carlson says Mr. Barrett died at Providence Medford Medical Center last night. Taylor is being treated at Rogue Regional Medical Center. Based on evidence gathered at the scene, Carlson says that alcohol, drugs and excessive speed were factors in the crash. A grand jury will hear the case against Taylor next week. Investigators are still gathering information. Detectives wish to speak with anyone who had contact with Taylor or Campos, or those who saw Taylor's red 2000 model Kia Spectra in the hours preceding the crash. The Sheriff's tip line is (541) 774-8333.
