The Oregon State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 near Phoenix this morning. An emergency dispatcher who had worked with Jackson County for over 20 years was killed on her way home from work at around 3:17 a.m.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 32-year Richard Webster Scott was driving northbound in a Dodge Caravan in the right-hand southbound lane of Interstate 5, five miles south of Medford, when he collided with a Honda Civic driven by 58-year old Karen Lee Greenstein of Ashland.
Greenstein was ejected from her car and died at the scene of the crash. Scott was extricated from his vehicle, and he was transported to Rogue Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Alcohol is thought to be a factor in the crash. Investigators are looking for witnesses. Police are looking into a report that Scott may have entered on to I-5 at exit 21. Anyone who has information that has not spoken with police is asked to call (541) 776-6111.
