Oregon Special Session Kicks Off Today

By Jim McCoy Mon 3rd February News2014 Special SessionOregon legislature
Oregon lawmakers have officially started the 2014 legislative session. The House and Senate convened Monday morning to begin five weeks of work that's likely to be dominated by debates over the legalization of marijuana, gun control and the proposed Columbia River bridge. The state budget will need to be revised, and lawmakers are likely to look at the fiasco with Cover Oregon, the state's health insurance exchange. But the agenda for Monday is relatively light. Legislative committees are scheduled to discuss pay inequality, apprenticeship programs and a proposal to allow health care providers to electronically transmit prescriptions for painkillers, stimulants and other so-called Schedule II drugs.
