The lesson home owners can take away from the big theft of a Medford home: make sure that if you’re gone of more than a couple of days, be sure to suspend delivery of your mail and newspaper. Medford Police say 52-year old Patrick Munn had been stealing small amounts of mail from boxes on Starwood Court, when a full box belonging to a vacationing couple in the neighborhood tipped him to the fact they hd been gone a few days.
When the couple returned, $40-thousand dollars worth of items- jewelry, golf clubs, fly fishing gear and even a couple of vehicles had been stolen. After the couple returned Monday, they reported the theft. Police tracked down some of the stolen property at a pawn shop. Information obtained there led them to someone living on Elk Street.
Wednesday night, authorities came to the residence where they found Munn and arrested him. A significant amount of the stolen items were recovered. Police were also able to recover the Chevy pick-up and BMW 525i as well.
Munn was taken in without incident. The case remains under investigation.
