Lane County Considering Tobacco Retailer Licensing Fee

By Jim McCoy Mon 18th November Newsbusiness licensingLane Countytobacco retailers
Health officials in Lane County are working on the idea of requiring tobacco retailers to get business licenses. Among the anti-tobacco activities the fees would finance is more vigorous enforcement of laws against sales to minors. Health officials say underage Oregonians have an easier time buying tobacco than in many other states, and Lane County officials say it's easier in their county. The Eugene Register-Guard (http://bit.ly/HZNkEE) reports that several Oregon cities already require tobacco sellers to get business licenses, but no Oregon counties have adopted such a requirement. Lane County officials say the planning is just getting underway with several key decisions yet to be made - including the size of the fines for sales to minors.
