2013 Was Medford's Second Hottest Summer on Record

By Jim McCoy Tue 3rd September NewsSouthern Oregon weather
Did it seem hot to you this summer? If you live in the Medford area, there's a good reason for it. For the period running from June 21 to August 31, Medford's average temperature(factoring in day and night)was 75.8 degrees, falling just short of 1967 during the same time, when the average was 76.2. There was a two-week period in July where the daytime high reached 95 degrees or hotter. A high pressure system that hovered over the region for weeks was the cause. The year is also tracking to be the driest. In Medford, 4.55 inches of rain have fallen since January 1. In 1955, only 4.28 inches fell between New Year's day and August 31.
