Several Arrests Made In Large Scale Mail Theft Ring

Medford police say 23 people have been accused in a scheme to steal mail and use the information inside for identity theft. Medford police said Thursday that five face federal charges, and 18 face state charges. The investigation was conducted by the police department and postal inspectors. The police statement said more than 2,000 pieces of mail were stolen between September and March. The five facing federal charges are accused of stealing the mail for the financial and identity documents inside. A Jackson County grand jury indicted 13 people on charges of opening accounts at local banks and depositing forged or fraudulent checks. Police said 11 have been arrested, and two remain at large. The police said five additional people were arrested during the investigation on fraud-related charges.
