The goal to move a quarter of all Pacific Power customers to renewable energy is said to be ahead of schedule. Over the past 12 years the number of alternative energy sources established in Oregon, including wind turbines, has exploded. Part of the momentum behind the trend is a mandate to make sure 25% of all power generated comes from 'green' energy sources like wind, solar, and wave technology. Pacific Power's 'Blue Sky' coordinator, Hattie Berg, says they are half way through a challenge to increase the amount of alternative power used by their current customers.
Pacific Power says the average cost to incorporating alternative power in your home is about $10 per month on the average. By December 31st the company hopes to have converted 25% of their customers into using more alternative sources.
