Bureau of Labor Stats Study Shows Medford Workers Earning Less Than National Average

A study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics today shows that Medford area workers earn 11 percent less on average than their counterparts nationwide. The average is $19.66 an hour, compared to $22.01 nationwide. According to the study , the highest paid occupations are management at an average of $42.50 an hour, followed by legal occupations at $40.91. Exceptions are in healthcare practitioners and technical occupations, who earn 12 percent more than the nation average. Healthcare support workers earn 11% higher than their peers nationwide. Office and administrative support occupations account for the largest share of local employment at 17.2 percent. 2,650 people work in retail sales, while cashiers number 2,310 among their ranks. Other leading occupations by number of workers include truck drivers, food preparation workers and waiters and waitresses.
