Memorial Day Observances Planned at Eagle Point National Cemetary

Flag displays, Scottish bagpipes, a rifle salute and a flyover are planned for Monday's Memorial Day observance at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The observance is scheduled to run from 11 am to 12 pm. Local artist Sheri Parker-Smith will sing the National Anthem. A flyover will consist of helicopters and World War II bi-planes.Taps will be played on the trumpet by retired Army Sgt. Al Zeller. Speakers will include Sgt. Mark Dalton, SORCC Director Don Burman, Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden, and Rep. Greg Walden. About 2,400 people are expected to attend. Today, students from Scenic Middle School are placing flags on nearly 18-thousand grave sites.
