A property tax levy for Josephine County has gone down to defeat. Nearly 52-percent of registered voters weighed in and it was rejected by a little more than 500 votes out of over 26-thousand cast.
With the loss of federal timber money, Josephine is one of several counties who have had to make drastic cutbacks to public safety services. Similar levies were rejected in Curry County, but passed in Lane County. Though Josephine County has among the lowest property tax rates in the state, voters have stood firm against increases.
