Police have arrested a Medford man and a woman from Central Point for allegedly stealing a gun from relatives of the female suspect. 29-year old Crystal Carol Hoyt and 30-year Kenneth Duane Vinzant Jr. are lodged in Jackson County Jail. Vinzant also faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of heroin. Last Thursday, police received a tip that the pair has stolen a 9mm handgun. According to a Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement (MADGE) press release, the relatives shared a home with Hoyt. She was contacted by police and arrested for violating parole. Investigators recovered the gun from a home in the 6800 block of Oakhurst in Central Point. The residents there said they were unaware that the firearm was stolen and they cooperated with authorities. Monday, Vinzant was stopped by police. A canine officer alerted police to drugs in Vinzant's vehicle and a warrant was issued. Vinzant was arrested. Tuesday, police also found scales and a cell phone in the vehicle. After processing the phone, more charges may be leveled against Vinzant, police say.
