If you see smoke coming from the Jacksonville and Applegate valley, rest assured today’s fire was by design. The Bureau of Land Management performed a prescribed burn of 150 acres in the Star Gulch drainage area. Smoke may be seen, but will dissipate throughout the evening. 15 firefighters and an engine are on hand to monitor the burn. The aim is to burn off dead grasses that could accelerate a wildfire’s spread.
