Firefighter Dad Encouraging Window Safety

By Jim McCoy Wed 10th April NewsNational Window Safetywindow safety
Jason Keen Cunningham is a Portland firefighter and emergency medical technician who is very safety conscious. He and his wife Becca covered the electrical outlets at the Vancouver home and installed mesh on their deck railing to prevent their three young children from falling through. But they told The Columbian they overlooked the risk of a second-floor bedroom window. In 2010, their 3-year-old son Thomas pushed out a screen and landed on the backyard patio, suffering a skull fracture. Thomas was in a coma and paralyzed for a time. After rehabilitation he's recovered, but his parents say brain damaged has destroyed his potential. The Keen Cunninghams are promoting window guards for children as part of National Window Safety Week.
