Thanks to DNA found on the mouth of an orange juice carton, the Jackson County Sheriff’s office was able to solve an October 29, 2012 burglary in the 11-thousand block of Agate Road in Eagle Point. During the course of the break-in, jewelry, a flat screen TV, and $10,000 worth of silver ingots were stolen, along with collectible coins from a heavy home safe.
33-year old Ryan Bohnert was already in jail on burglary charges from another case. Bohnert had already been identified as a person of interest early on in the case.
During the burglary in question, Bohnert has apparently removed a carton of orange juice from the victim’s refrigerator and discarded it on the floor. The DNA sample was taken from the mouth of the carton. The Oregon State Crime Lab matched the DNA in the FBI Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) database belonging to two suspects.
A second unidentified suspect is being investigated.
