Police Seeking Gunman Shoot Suspect Near Hospital
Police say officers investigating reports of a gunman on the grounds of a southeast Portland hospital shot and killed a suspect in a confrontation.
Spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson says the shooting occurred after police responded to Portland Adventist Medical Center about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
He says in a statement early Monday that the hospital was locked down to protect patients and staff as officers checked out a report of a man with a gun in the parking lot.
As police searched the large hospitals complex, some officers encountered the suspect and shots were fired.
Simpson says that the man died at the scene but no officers were hit.
It's not yet clear what exact circumstances led to the officers shooting.
Police say they will release more details.
