Good Samaritan In Grants Pass To Receive Recognition

By Jim McCoy Fri 28th September NewsGrants Pass newsrescue

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety is recognizing Daron Dawson with a Public Safety Honor Citation. They are honoring Dawson for saving 89-year old Martha Tankersly from a fire at her Bryn Court home on August 24th.

Dawson noticed smoke coming from the home while on his way to work, as he was traveling down Williams Highway. Dawson quickly drove over to the Tankersly home. He gained access through the front entrance, and found the Mrs. Tankersly through the thick smoke. Risking his own life, he pulled the home owner to safety.

If not for Dawson’s actions, fire officials say Martha Tankersly would have likely perished due to smoke inhalation. He will receive the citation at Monday’s City Council workshop at 11:45 a.m.
