Today, Harry and David donated 8,000 pounds of peaches to feed the needy in Southern Oregon. ACCESS picked up and will distribute the fruit. The agency works with a network of 24 food pantries.

Before the season is over, Harry and David will donate another 14,000 pounds of peaches. ACCESS Nutrition Programs Manager Philip Yates praises the mail order gourmet food giant as a “wonderful charitable partner.” He says the donation will greatly aid his agency in getting fresh, nutritious produce to hungry families. During the economic downturn, ACCESS has seen an increased demand for food assistance.

Since the fruit is highly perishable, some of the fruit will be shared with neighboring food banks once local distribution needs are covered. Harry and David is also donating 100 fruit bins which can be re-purposed by ACCESS as raised planters for ACCESS Food Share and other community gardens.
