Central Oregon Homes Protected Successfully
Firefighters have thwarted a fast-moving fire and protected a subdivision of weekend getaway homes in Central Oregon. An evacuation notice was lifted about 10 p.m. Monday in the Three Rivers development about 15 miles northeast of Sisters.
Lisa Clark, a spokeswoman for agency firefighters, said about 100 homes were threatened. But because it was a weekday night, only about 15 people were in the subdivision. She said firefighters did a "burnout operation."
They lit a fire along a road that denied the wildfire the fuel it might have used to get across the road and into the subdivision. Clark says the combination of the road and the strip deliberately set afire created a large barrier, so authorities lifted the evacuation order.
