Firefighters Keep Grants Pass Area Grass Blaze Small
They've trained together and work well together, as evidenced by their work Wednesday in quenching a small grass fire in the 2400 block of Upper River Road. Mike Shaw, a spokesman for the Rural/Metro Fire Department says his department and firefighters from the Oregon Department of Forestry and Grants Pass Fire Rescue combined to quickly quench a grass fire.
Shaw says if conditions had been any different, or if it h been later in the fire season, the fire could have been "much worse." A total of 10 engines and 26 firefighters responded to the call that went out at 5:54 p.m. The final size of the fire was 1.3 acres.
There were no injuries and no structures were damaged. The fire was caused by a person discharging a firearm into an embankment possibly causing a spark from the ricochet.
