The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says the autopsy performed on Scott Chappell, who died in police custody June 13 is now complete. The medical examiner now awaits the return of a toxicology report, which could take 6 to 10 weeks.

Authorities responded to a call last Wednesday, concerned about what was described as erratic behavior on the part of Chappell, 44, a military veteran. Police and medical personnel determined Chappell to be a threat to himself or others, and attempted to subdue him with a stun gun, which they say appeared to have no effect. He died shortly after being placed in an ambulance.
