Forecast: 4th of July Travel Volume Will Tie Record For Heaviest in Decade
The upcoming fourth of July holiday looks to be a boon for the tourism industry. AAA is forecasting that 13.3 percent of Americans will be traveling 50 miles or more during the holiday period. In the Pacific region, about 12.7 percent of the population will be taking to the road to celebrate with family and friends. The forecast calls for travel to equal that of the same period in 2007, and would mark a 5 percent improvement over 2011.
Recent falling gas prices are helping spur travel plans. With Independence falling in the middle of the week, more people are taking more time off around the holiday. More than half of those surveyed say they plan to start their trip before the start of that work week.
Not only is auto travel expected to increase, air travel is also forecasted to be up as well.
