State Police: Holiday Fatalities, DUII's Down Memorial Day Weekend
The Oregon State Police is reporting fewer fatalities for the Memorial Day weekend. Three people died in thee separate crashes, compared to four in 2011. In 2010, there were six Memorial weekend fatalities, and five died in 2009 during the same period. A record 13 fatalities were recorded over Memorial Day weekend in 1979.
Drunk driving arrests were also down from 88 in 2011 to 61 this last weekend. The Portland and Springfield Command offices reported 10 each. Increased patrols and safety enforcement will continue through June 3rd as part f the “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
