Eagle Point School Superintendent OK'ed To Hire Strike Subs
The Eagle Point School District is planning to hire substitute teachers if the teachers' union goes ahead with a threatened strike on Tuesday.
The school board gave Superintendent Cynda Rickert permission
Wednesday to hire substitutes and to offer incentive pay to
employees who choose not to strike.
The Mail Tribune reports the district has started advertising on Craigslist for "emergency guest teachers."
The school board also voted Wednesday to close schools Monday
and Tuesday to prepare for a strike. Negotiators will meet Monday
in hope of reaching a last-minute agreement on a new contract.
The school board has said it plans to continue classes and keep
graduation plans on track for seniors.
