Six Southern Oregon Medical Marijuana Growers Charged

Six men have been charged in the first federal prosecution in Oregon of medical marijuana growers. Two were arraigned Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Medford, two more were slated to appear today (Wednesday), and the last two are expected later this week.
     They are accused of conspiring and selling thousands of pounds
of marijuana - some of it to Washington state - grown on four
medical marijuana gardens in Jackson County.
     The gardens were raided last fall, when federal agents ripped
out hundreds of plants with backhoes and hauled them off in dump
trucks.
     U.S. Attorney Amanda Marshall says she hopes this will serve as
a deterrent to people trying to use Oregon's medical marijuana
program as a cover for illegal drug sales.
