A 52-year-old gold miner has been convicted of living illegally on his mining claim on a national forest in Southern Oregon.
David Duane Everist was sentenced Monday to 30 days in jail. He had been convicted of illegally living on his Twin Cedars mining claim on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and mining a streambed without filing a plan of operations with the U.S.
