Local residents brought in a total of 57,080 pounds of flammable liquids, and other hazardous household items to the Jackson County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days last Friday and Saturday at the Rogue Transfer and Recycling Station in White City. 429 households and 38 businesses participated in the event by dropping off hazardous waste. Typical items disposed of include pesticides, aerosols, PCB ballasts and paint-related materials. The event also featured a free thermometer replacement exchange to get rid of old mercury thermometers, and a re-use table where items deemed “still usable” were available to take for free. According to their press release, a similar event will be held in Josephine County September 21.
