Neighbor's Actions Quench Apartment Fire

A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon on the exterior of a small studio apartment on Highland Avenue in Grants Pass. The Rural/Metro Fire Department credits quick action by a neighbor in extinguishing the fire with a garden hose by the time they arrived moments later.  About 400-dollars damage was done to the home’s exterior and never entered the residence.Read More »

Passer-By May Have Saved Man Who Jumped Into Rogue River

A passer-by may have saved the life of a man who jumped off a bridge into the Rogue River yesterday.  Bob Smithson was bicycling at 8:10 a.m. near Debs Potts Memorial Bridge in Grants Pass when he saw a man jump. Smithson called 9-1-1 and rescue personnel found 63-year old Jack Powell partially submerged about 600 feet downstream. His injuries were not believed to be life threatening.Read More »

Grants Pass House Fire

Several fire departments responded to a house fire in the Grants Pass area that caused $75,000 damage this (monday) morning.  When firefighters got to the scene on Redwood Avenue the garage was fully involved in fire.  The property owner tried to fight the fire initially with an extinguisher.  A family pet died in the blaze but no other injuries were reported.Read More »

Suspicious Grants Pass River Incident

Police in Grants Pass are investigating a Wednesday morning report of an unknown woman in a pink dress or shirt walking into the Rogue River in the 400 block of Short Street around 8:23 a.m.. The witness called police, and noted that the woman appeared to be walking to the opposite shoreline. As she went further into the water, it became deeper, and then carried her downstream.Read More »

Tip Leads To Burglar Arrest

A tip from an alert employee at Baldini’s restaurant led to the arrest of a suspected burglar. Grants Pass police took 23-year old Jack David Spurgeon into custody, after they found him inside Lam-Air Heating Tuesday night. Spurgeon allegedly entered the business through the roof, stealing tools, cash and office supplies.Read More »

A Grants Pass woman is facing “hit and run” and “d.u.i.” charges stemming from an accident early thursday morning. At 2-18 a-m, police found a power pole and a light pole completely sheered off near the intersection of 7th and “E” streets. Police found a license plate at the scene from a vehicle belonging to 26-year Sarah Ann Handley.Read More »
