Unemployment rates went down slightly in Jackson, Josephine and Coos counties. For the month of September, the jobless rate improved by a full percentage point over the year prior.
The seasonally-adjusted rate was 11.9 percent for Josephine County, 10.5 percent for Coos County, and 10.6 percent for Jackson County.

The numbers released today by Worksource Oregon reveal the same mixed report experienced at the state level. While there is a gain in jobs, the unemployment rate is also going up slightly, when comparing August to July.

Oregon's jobless rate has increased to almost 9 percent. The state Employment Department said Tuesday the unemployment rate for August was 8.9 percent - up from 8.7 percent in July and 8.5 percent in June.
