ODOT: Some Local Traffic Levels Decreasing

ACCORDING TO A STUDY RECENTLY RELEASED BY “O-DOT”
LOCAL TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE 5 AND HIGHWAY 99 HAS
DECREASED 15 PERCENT SINCE 2004. GARY LEAMING ATTRIBUTES
THE TREND TO THE RECESSION, RISING GAS PRICES AND MORE
PEOPLE DOING THEIR SHOPPING ONLINE. BUCKING THAT TREND
IS HIGHWAY 62, WHERE TRAFFIC HAS INCREASED FROM 36-
THOUSAND TRIPS IN 2001, TO OVER 42-THOUSAND IN 2010. THIS
REPORT- LEAMING SAYS- MAY HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT IN
TERMS OF SECURING FUNDING FOR MAJOR ROAD PROJECTS IN
THE FUTURE.
