New Funding For Increased Highway 140 Patrols
Grant funds from ODOT will once again strengthen patrols in the Lake Of The Woods safety corridor along Highway 140 between mileposts 29 and 47. Safety corridors are segments of the highway system that are deemed to have inordinately high fatal crash rates. Common driver errors that have led to serious crashes include speeding, tailgating, unsafe passing and distracted or drowsy driving.
32-thousand dollars will to the state police to pay for approximately 513 hours of overtime funding. Each safety corridor has signs placed at each end to inform motorists they are entering areas where they need to pay extra attention and be careful to obey all traffic laws. In the safety corridors where fines are doubled, signs are posted to warn travelers.
