Southern Oregon has its first bicycle signal up and running. Cyclists have a dedicated lane and signal on Ashland street towards the bridge spanning Interstate 5 at Exit 14, approaching the southbound on-ramp. Halloween festivities once again drew a crowd to Ashland, but all in all, police saw less of the notorious that the night tends to bring. 11 citations were handed out, mostly for pot possession, four were arrested. One was arrested for disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer. Three were cited for drunk driving, plus there were other citations issued for a variety of minor offenses.Read More »

The Ashland City Council has voted pursue further the idea of a day center for the homeless. The city would pay 100-thousand dollars over two years to lease a building out. The city of Ashland is joining the Oregon Department of Forestry in reducing the fire danger level from “Extreme” to “High.” Even with the lower level, outdoor debris burning is prohibited, motor vehicle traffic is still only permissible on improved roads, and smoking in areas of combustible vegetation is still prohibited.

Lloyd's of London says the liability insurance it provides for the Ashland Gun Club covers bodily injury and property damage, but it won't pay any damages related to lead contamination from ammunition.

The Ashland Fire Department says the cause of the fire at Alchemical Solutions, an organic distillery on Benson Way Friday is undetermined. Division Chief Marguerite Hickman says equipment used in distilling may have been the cause, but more testing would be needed at a forensic laboratory to be more specific.Read More »

Ashland firefighters responded this morning to the report of an explosion and fire and Alchemical Solutions on Benson Way. Neighboring businesses needed to be evacuate. Nearby Crowson Road needed to be closed off for a period of time. The business is a distiller of organic high-proof alcohol. The cause of the fire is not known at this time, and at last report, there were still active flames.Read More »
